Brian Wilcox had a poor internet connection and was unable to talk to a doctor over the phone.

Wilcox told Insider that he and his wife never watched a movie or video in high definition until their Starlink kit arrived.

Wilcox received Starlink in May of 2021. Wilcox said he has been able to use streaming services, watch HD videos, and access local stations since he set it up.

Wilcox said that his wife was able to connect to meetings thanks to Starlink.

It brings us into the 21st century for people who live off the paved road.

A life without internet connection can mean restrictions to daily essentials. Insider spoke with Starlink users who said the internet service had changed their lives. They sent Insider confirmation of their purchases to make sure they were using.

Education and work lives improve

Insider has learned that the Purcells struggled to download and upload documents for work.

"I used to have to go to a parking lot or restaurant to get a better internet connection," she said.

She said her professional life has improved since she ordered Starlink, and she and her children are able to work from home. She said they had saved $133 a month after they switched to Starlink.

Daniel Krueger is a customer of Starlink. He told Insider that he saved 180 dollars a month by changing Hughesnet to Starlink.

Krueger said that "Starlink has changed my life in that I am able to work from home, and have whatever entertainment and education resources I want, and am able to live in a wonderful rural area." He said that his son studies computer science and wouldn't be possible without Starlink.

Connecting RVs to the internet

It's not just households that Starlink has helped. Christopher Bowman, a Starlink user based in the Northern California mountains, told Insider he lives in a RV and uses the internet service for work and pleasure.

Finding good internet is hard as a full-time RVer.

It would take days for him to get his new satellite internet provider. He said uploading videos takes a long time. He can call his team from the East coast.

Starlink in warzones

Starlink is playing a part in the war in the other side of the world after it was activated in Ukranian during Russia's invasion. Insider spoke to an engineer in the capital city of Ukranian who said he had prepared his Starlink terminal for emergencies.

In April, a Ukrainian soldier told a British reporter that the satellite system allowed troops to stay connected to the internet in the face of Russian strikes.

A total of 42,000 satellites will be launched by Starlink by the middle of the 20th century.
