Piedmont Airlines, a regional partner of American Airlines, and its pilots said Friday night that they have reached an agreement.
The chairman of the Piedmont chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association said that Piedmont is the leading regional carrier in compensation with the best path to a mainline flying career at American.
Piedmont will be able to grow and be the airline to work at as a result of it.
At 6:30 p.m., a deal was struck. It was Friday. It was approved by the four members of the executive committee. Piedmont has a large number of pilots.
On a conference call with reporters, the regional industry was blasted for paying subpar wages, which made them unable to retain pilots.
Their failure to retain has led to widespread discussion of a pilot shortage, which the ALPA does not believe exists.
Piedmont's vice president of flight operations sent a letter to the pilots saying that the approach to pilot compensation would make them the highest paid in the industry.
The letter said that the pilot's wages would be 70% higher than the next highest paid regional carrier. A new hire pilot should make more money than pilots at leading ultra-low-cost carriers over the first five years of their employment.
Piedmont is the leading regional carrier not just in terms of performance and reliability, but also in terms of compensation, thanks to the Piedmont-ALPLA partnership.
The Piedmont captain's salary will go to $157 per hour with a 50% pay premium and remain in place until 2024. That goes up to $161 per hour in the next few years. The pay for a first officer is $90 per hour with a $30 per hour premium. First-year officers will get a raise to $92 per hour in 2023.
If you haven't advanced to American mainline by the end of the fifth year, you'll go to top scale.
The deal lasts until 2029 In order to improve pilot working conditions in scheduling, commute and other areas, the contract has been amended several times. Piedmont transitioned from the Dash DASH to the E145s.
There are about 100 departures from Philadelphia and 60 from Charlotte. There are three crew bases in Charlotte, Philadelphia and Harrisburg.
The letter said the deal represented a significant financial commitment, but a commitment to building a pilot and training group ready to take on new opportunities for Piedmont and American Airlines.
There is a possibility that this could be the case.
