In the aftermath of hundreds of pro-Trump supporters breaching the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election, Trump and Hannity were discussing ways to address the potential ramifications.

The former president seemed to like the idea of issuing a last-minute presidential pardon for Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden.

He was interested in the pardon idea. The January 6 House panel released text messages from the day before.

Trump's campaign of pressure on the Ukrainian government resulted in the impeachment of the former president in early 2020. Hunter Biden has not been charged or accused of any wrongdoing.

The pardon suggestion was brought to Trump by a source who said he wanted some healing.

According to a person familiar with the conversation between Trump and Hannity, the idea of a pardon was proposed, but it was rejected.

The person said that it died on the vine.

Representatives from Fox News didn't reply immediately.

Presidential pardons were one of the few power moves left by Trump in the last days of his presidency. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the House January 6 committee, said during Thursday's hearings that GOP lawmakers reached out to Trump for their roles in trying to overturn the 2020 election.

The congressman contacted the White House in the weeks after January 6 to seek a pardon.
