There are plastic bottles in grass, wrappers in rivers, and disposable bags in tree branches in the wilderness. The sale and distribution of single-use plastic items will be stopped on public lands and national parks in 2032.

"As the steward of the nation's public lands, including national parks and national wildlife refuges, and as the agency responsible for the management of fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats, we are uniquely positioned to do better for our Earth." The Department's sustainable plans will include bold action on phasing out single-use plastic products as we seek to protect our natural environment and the communities around them, as a result of today's order.

The plan for the country's federal agencies to decrease waste is part of the administration's plan. The goal is to decrease the amount of trash that is thrown away. More than 70 million tons of waste is managed annually by the National Parks Service. A lot of it is plastic.

In 2020, the Interior Department produced more than 80,000 tons of waste. The Department has an obligation to reduce the impact of plastic waste on our environment, according to a 2020 memo.

The change will mean less plastic going into landfills and will be good for the environment. Our environment should be protected from trash that isn't going to biodeGRADE. A new administration may not continue with the plan to reduce plastic waste because of U.S. leadership changes. It was years ago, but we are here now.
