Three astronauts from China docked with the space station earlier this week. During their six-month mission on board the station, the new crew hopes to continue work on the Chinese outpost, which will be about a fifth the size of the International Space Station.
China's Manned Space Agency hopes to finish construction of the space station by the end of the century. They will launch two new modules later this year, one in July and the other in October, which will expand their research capabilities in microgravity and life sciences.
The first module was launched in April of 2021. The experiences learned from the Tiangong-1 and Tiangong-2 stations have been burned up by the atmosphere. The laboratory cabin modules will be combined with the core module. The Wentian module and the Mengtian module are part of these.
The first Chinese woman to fly to space in 2012 is part of the new crew. In support of the station's construction, the crew will conduct severalEvas.
