The Oklahoma softball team won the Women's College World Series for the second year in a row.

The Sooners beat Texas 16-1 in Game 1 on Wednesday and 10-5 in Game 2 on Thursday, setting a record for the most runs scored in a single game after the World Series.

Alo, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, and her teammates broke the previous records for most homers and runs in a single tournament.

The previous records for home runs and runs scored by the Sooners were set last year.

The analysts picked the best team in college softball history. The 1994 Arizona team was part of the dynasty that won five titles in seven years. The 2008 Arizona State team ran by opponents by an average of 355 runs per game. 2001 Arizona, which slugged a then-Division I record 126 homers and was led by a dominant Jennie Finch in the circle, was chosen by our audience as the best team.

The GOAT label was claimed by the Sooners this year. They were the country's leader in batting average, scoring and pitching. Run rule was used for 40 of their 59 victories.

This year's Sooners were good. Our experts give a way-too-early look at the upcoming season.

Where does this year's Oklahoma team rank among the best ever?

The greatest team of all time. No.1. They are likely to beat the team from last year. I don't recall a time when 1-9 was as good as it is today. Not a whole team like this one has seen pitchers that are better and have better performances. I think you can go back to some of the UCLA and Arizona greats, but in this era of competition, to have someone come through and dominate is very rare.

This year's team and last year's team are very similar. The '90s Arizona teams that could have won five titles in a row were just a monster. The '92 UCLA team lost only two times all year.

A great run for the title would be given by our Arizona 1994 team. Susie and Nancy were the first team to hit 100 home runs. This group at Oklahoma is very similar to our group. This simulation could be created by a software designer. Both teams need to be respected.

It is the best team. The most talented teams have not seen the same competition as we have seen this year. The 64 teams that made it into the tournament have an unseeded team in the title match. What Oklahoma has done, including mercying in the finals, is what makes me think that they are the best team in the country.

Madison Shipman was offended. It's amazing how many times, when they swing, they are perfect on time and they hit the ball so well, at such a consistent clip. Jayda Coleman in the leadoff spot has been huge for them, setting the tone and getting on base so she can score. Riley has had a great playoffs. There is never a break in the offense because of the players who can step up and the players who can hit long balls. The pitchers can talk to that as well. The air is suffocating. Mistakes can't be made.

Last year we talked about their team being the best, but I think this year's team takes it. There has been a quiet player for them. She always adds to their offense. There are more than one weapon behind Alo and Jennings that can beat you.

You have to put their offense with some of the best ever, right up there with some of the Arizona teams from the '90's. The power numbers are off the charts. She hit over.500, making her the best power hitter of all time.

Does Oklahoma have what it takes to sustain this success next year?

With another year of experience, she's going to be much better. They will probably need a new pitcher.

It would be foolish to think there wouldn't be a step back without Alo, and we wait and see what the pitching staff looks like next year. They have used the transfer portal well in the past.

They've won with transfers. It was Giselle Juarez last year. The pitcher was Hope and the outfielder was Jordy. They have great recruiting classes.

I believe that Patty Gasso has created a culture that attracts the talent needed to maintain this dominance. The environment where winning breeds win has been provided by her. Upperclassmen examples are used to communicate expectations of incoming freshman.

Smith does not believe you can replace Alo. Her weighted runs created are better than anyone else. I don't think she will ever be replaced, but I think the question will be who will hit behind her so she can keep doing what she does. Perhaps that is Grace Lyons, but who is behind her? She has something up her sleeve.

Weighted runs are a comprehensive hitting stat that adjusts for sport and run environments. The highest wrc+ in MLB history is recorded by Barry Bonds in 2002, and the Division I average is 100.

Besides Jocelyn Alo, which senior will you miss watching the most?

There is a leader at Texas that I believe to be Janae Jefferson. She was a big part of getting this Longhorns team as far as it did and she was great to watch.

Bri Perez is from UCLA She has been one of the best leaders the Bruins have had. There has been a line of eight years of Perez sisters who have played there.

The person is from South Florida. It's kind of old-school that she's a pitcher who throws a lot more than the rest. You don't see pitchers throwing one-arm shows anymore. She finished the year with a 37-5 record.

The pitchers are Corrick, Rochard, Gabbie Plain, and Mary Haff and DanielleGibson.

Danielle Whorton was a pleasure to work with at Arkansas. She had the ability to change a game in a single swing.

Rochard helped bring in many talented players to Virginia Tech and she's been one of my favorites.

Smith said he thought of Mia Davidson. Even though she was under the radar at Mississippi State she was fun to watch in the SEC. Also from the state. She was a big part of the success of the program for the last few years after she won the national championship her freshman year.

Davidson hit was fun to watch. She was there for a long time. Corrick pitch day in and day out was great for me. She had a lot of different pitches that she could throw at any time. You could almost see the game being played. I liked putting my pitcher's cap on when I watched her.

Hannah Adams was a good second baseman for the University of Florida. For a long time, plain was good.

play

Jayda Coleman made an amazing catch to prevent a home run from the Longhorns.

What was your favorite moment of this year's NCAA tournament?

I was going to say that Jayda Coleman made an even bigger home run against Texas, but I was going to be wrong.

Megan Faraimo struck out with the bases loaded and then hit a home run. I think I'll never forget that.

Hannah Adams made a great play in the Blacksburg Super Regional when she jumped and threw to first base. I like defensive plays.

The comebacks in the super regional were enjoyable. You don't see that very often, when you're down in every game and you find a way to get back up. It was really brave because they had all the seniors.

The part that I like the most is the one with the girl. She started out in a cow pasture as a pitcher and is now on the biggest stage. The most interesting aspect of her journey has been her belief in herself and her decision to go to a bigger school.

The upsets of the Pac-12 made me happy. When Alabama and Oregon State were upset, we saw that certain conferences were not as dominant as we thought. The game can swing back and forth.

Arizona rose above everyone's expectations and advanced to the World Championship Series. Most people didn't think they'd get into the tournament, but they did. It was great to see Caitlin Lowe fill in for Mike Candrea and come away with the win.

If you get hot at the right time, you can make a long run in the playoffs if you play well. James Madison and Georgia made it to the World Series last year, and this year they did it again.

Mowins is going the other way. The people love dynasties and greatness. People try to say they don't but the ratings show otherwise. I think Jocelyn Alo has been the best part of the tournament.

What is your bold way-too-early prediction for 2023?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that she's the front-runner for national player of the year, because she's put herself in a good position.

If not, then Megan Faraimo. She can open the lineup for UCLA if she learns to hit. She could be in the running for player of the year if she can hit and pitch.

Chenise Delce is from Arkansas. She can be really special in the circle if she continues to develop.

My prediction is that the conference will have a team in the tournament. There's a chance that it could. One of the best pitchers in the game is expected to return to Florida State.

Oklahoma will be the team to beat.
