The January 6 committee's decision to hold a prime time hearing was criticized by Del Rio, who suggested the government should review the riots after George Floyd was murdered.

The coach called the Capitol storming a "dustup" and insisted he would rather see a hearing on riots in major cities during the summer of 2020.

After issuing an apology, Del Rio said he stood by his comments condemning violence in communities across the country.
