According to the Glasgow Times, Apple's Buchanan Street store in Scotland is about to become the first branch in the UK to unionize.

After joining the country's general workers union, the staff at Apple Glasgow applied for voluntary union recognition with Apple. They say low wages, lack of pay transparency, and unfair shift patterns pushed them to leave.

An Apple worker told the paper that Apple's staff forums in the UK are ineffectual and feedback is ignored. It is a one-on-one discussion.

We need our own representatives to speak up. People are having a hard time with the cost of living. They said that they needed a pay rise, pay transparency and a voice.

Workers are struggling to find a work life balance because of recent changes to scheduling. Store staff in Glasgow will demand a pay rise if union recognition is granted.

Apple responded to the move by staff at Apple Glasgow with a statement.

"We are fortunate to have incredible retail team members and we deeply value everything they bring to Apple.

"We are pleased to offer very strong compensation and benefits, including private healthcare, enhanced parental leaves, paid family leave, annual stock grants and many other benefits for every team member."

Apple retail employees in the US have moved. Apple retail locations in Washington State, New York City, and Maryland are trying to unionize. Employees want better retirement options and higher pay.

Apple has agreed to improve working conditions for retail employees in the U.S. amid unionization efforts, but not before the company tried to prevent employees from trying to unionize.

David, thank you.
