There is a new date of Jun 10, 2022.
The January 6 Select Committee conducted its first prime time hearings on Thursday evening that included revelations about Capitol riots and former President Donald Trump's plans to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential elections.
The second hearing will take place on June 13th. The next hearing will focus on how Trump ignored court rulings, advice from his aides and other government officials that his "frivolous" claims about a stolen election were false, Cheney said.
The third hearing will take place on June 15. The hearing will show how Trump tried to replace the attorney general with an environmental lawyer and how he tried to use the DOJ to spread his false claims about a stolen election.
According to Cheney, the fourth and following hearings will focus on Trump's "illegal and unconstitutional" attempt to pressure former Vice President Mike Pence to block the counting of electoral votes in Congress.
Evidence of how the former president bribed state lawmakers and election officials to change the results will be revealed in the fifth hearing.
The hearings will show how Trump ordered a violent mob to march on the Capitol and then failed to stop the violence.
Detailed accounts from former White House staffers about the day of the attack will be included in the final hearing.
Cheney said that on the morning of January 6th, Trump intended to remain president despite the lawful outcome of the 2020 election and in violation of his Constitutional obligation to relinquish power.
The hearings on Thursday highlighted the committee's initial findings. On the day of the riots, members of the Proud Boys began moving towards the Capitol before Trump finished his speech at a "Stop The Steal" rally in Washington. The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen. Mark Milley, revealed that the vice president called the National Guard in order to get help from the Pentagon. Trump responded to chants by his supporters by saying that the former vice president deserved it, according to Cheney. The chair of the committee accused Trump of inciting groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers by asking his supporters to travel to D.C. The area looked like a "warzone" and she witnessed "hours of hand- to-hand combat" between police and rioters.
Riot defendants say Trump asked them to storm the capitol.
