Ikea will be releasing a record player as part of its Obergrnsad collection this fall. The record player was designed in collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, a house music supergroup, and is similar to a lot of Ikea's other consumer electronics. A desk and armchair are part of the collection.
This isn't the first Ikea device that plays music. The turntable was made in collaboration with Teenage Engineering and was supposed to be released in 2019. The player never made it into the final collection.
An interview about the new record player on Ikea's site was alludes to the previous one. She says she asked if they could use the same supplier because they tried to do a record player before. There are hints about the player's function in the writeup, such as the fact that it has a built-in preamplifier, and that it has a replaceable needle. Ikea says that the player will work with its Eneby speaker, but it will only work over a wired connection. Technical details are very thin. It is not known whether the record player has built-in speakers or not.
Ikea has been asked about how much the device will cost. The Obergrnsad collection will include it this fall.
