The New York Rangers' eight-game home playoff winning streak came to an end on Thursday night with a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Rangers are familiar with this area.

"So far, we've been down in every series," Andrew said. We need to have a level of desperation. The room is believed in. We played a good game.

Jacob Trouba said that he believed that.

He said it definitely stung. We have to go there, win a game, come back and play a game. Now is the time for that goal. We are going to win a game in Florida.

Ondrej Palat scored with 1:45 left in regulation to give the Lightning a 2-2 tie with the Rangers. It was Palat's second game-winning goal in the past three games, he also scored with 42 seconds left in the third game.

The Rangers were held to a single goal for the second game in a row.

Steven Stamkos said it was defend until the end. We didn't change anything. It was going to be a challenge with how they were playing. At times, it was not pretty. We kept it at 1s. We went into the last few shifts and continued with the plan. You get rewarded for sticking with it for a long time.

Two goals were scored from unlikely sources.

The Rangers got on the board at 10:39 of the second period when Ryan Lindgren floated a long shot from the side boards through Vasilevskiy.

Sergachev scored on a double screen in front of Shesterkin in the second period to tie the game at 1.

The Rangers had a chance to get a second goal. One golden opportunity saw center Ryan Strome, who returned to play after missing Game 4 with a lower-body injury, unable to knock the puck into an open net.

There are chances all around. I put it behind him anyways.

The opportunities were there for the team, according to the coach.

He said that there were a few times where they should have had an open net goal. I think we played well. We played a sport together. We played a sound hockey game, even though we lost at the end.

The Rangers have only scored two even-strength goals in the series. Their power play, which ranks first in the playoffs and clicks at a 30% conversion rate at home, was limited to one opportunity in Game 5, the result of Shesterkin shooting the puck toward the Bolts, who had too many men on the ice. The Rangers had a power play.

The Rangers deserved more power-play opportunities than that according to Gallant.

"I did" I definitely did. They called the game an excellent one. The officials allow the teams to play. We could have had a few more.

The lack of calls is in perspective.

There were six guys in the play and they had to call a penalty. Maybe there were some that were deserving. It was not like they had seven power plays and we had one. You cannot rely on that.

The Rangers will return to Florida on Saturday. They can't take solace in the fact that the Lightning seem to be getting better as the series progresses. They've won all five games they've played so far in the playoffs.

When our backs are against the wall, we play our best hockey.
