Donald Trump oversaw a seven-part plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election and stay in power, according to Republican Rep. Liz Cheney.
"Over multiple months, Donald Trump oversaw and coordinated a sophisticated seven part plan to overturn the presidential election and prevent the transfer of presidential power," said Cheney, the vice chair of the House select committee. Each element of the plan will be shown in the hearings.
Cheney's comments came during the first of six public hearings that the January 6 panel plans to hold this month to reveal its findings after a year long investigation. More than 1,000 witnesses have been interviewed by the committee. More than a half dozen former Trump administration officials who were in the West Wing of the White House during the attack on the Capitol will testify, according to Cheney.
The testimony the panel collected showed that Trump was angry at his aides who were pushing him to respond to the violence.
Our supporters have an idea. Trump and Cheney both said that Mike Pence deserved it.
The House committee will show how Trump tried to stay in office even though he lost the election to Biden, according to Cheney.
According to the panel's findings, the violence at the Capitol was caused by the misinformation disseminated by Trump and his advisors.
The Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security were ignored by the former president in his attempt to overturn the results, according to Cheney. The panel's evidence shows that Trump planned to replace Attorney General Bill Barr with someone who would spread false information.
Cheney was removed from her GOP leadership post after she criticized Trump after the Capitol attack.
