The vice chair of the House committee investigating the January 6 riot said at a Thursday night hearing that former President Donald Trump told White House staffers his supporters were "doing what they should be doing" by storming the Capitol.

According to Cheney, Trump told staffers during the riot that Mike Pence deserved it.

The committee played testimony from former Attorney General Bill Barr who called Trump's fraud claims in the 2020 election "bulls**t" and a video of the former president's daughter saying she "accepted" Barr's position there was no widespread fraud.

The attack on the U.S. Capitol amounted to an ongoing conspiracy to subvert the will of the people, according to the committee chair.
