Three people are dead and one is critically injured in a shooting at a Maryland company.
There was a shooting in Smithsburg at 2:30pm. The news release stated that the time was Eastern.
Three of the victims were already dead when responders arrived at the scene of the shooting.
The suspect's vehicle was identified by Maryland State Police after he escaped the facility.
The trooper shot the suspect after he shot the responding trooper.
Both the suspect and the trooper were taken to the hospital after being injured in the gunfight.
Authorities said there was no active threat to the community.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
