Fans are going to be surprised by the future of the Cinematic Universe. Jake Schreier has been tapped to direct a movie based on the comic of the same name, according to reports.

According to Deadline, Eric Pearson (Black Widow) is writing a film about a group of supervillains. The name of the comic is based on William Hurt's character in the films, who put together the villainous team.

Several of the recent MCU entries, such as B lack Widow and The Falcon and Winter Soldier, have included villains who were left with nowhere to go story-wise. Speculation is that the characters could return to this movie. Black Widow, Baron Zemo, Ghost, and Abomination are some of the characters from the films. None of those characters are confirmed but educated speculation says they are prime candidates, and Marvel has begun to reach out to the as-yet- unknown actors who would appear in the movie and asked them to keep next summer free to shoot.

Schreier has directed two films in the last few years, including the hit Robot and Frank, as well as Paper Towns, starring Cara Delevingne. Both of those films are character driven and show command of the form. Who are we to say that he can do it?

We are likely to hear more about the project in the coming weeks, possibly at San Diego Comic-Con or D23 expo, where a big presentation is rumored to take place.
