  • Kevin McCarthy has been subpoenaed.

  • McCarthy has been exchanging letters with the panel about testifying.

  • He said he had been denied the right to participate but never said he wouldn't.

Kevin McCarthy was the House Minority Leader when the January 6 select committee was formed.

As the public hearing phase begins, he stopped short of closing the door to ever cooperating with the investigation.

When asked why he hasn't talked to them yet, the California Republican said he had never said he wouldn't participate. He said that he had been denied the right to participate in the investigation due to the breakdown in communications.

McCarthy is one of the Trump allies in congress who has been subpoenaed to testify.

McCarthy was asked to talk about what he knows about the Capitol siege prior to being subpoenaed. McCarthy said he sent two letters to the select committee asking for clarification about what investigators wanted him to talk about.

They answered my questions, but not everything. He said that they haven't responded to the second letter he sent them.

McCarthy will lend his voice to what he claims is the legislative branch's worst mistake if he joins in at some point during the month long hearing process.

The committee is the most political and least legitimate in American history according to McCarthy. This country has been damaged by it.

The House Republican leaders are working on a report that will be released at a later time.

McCarthy said the report would be done soon.
