Christopher Schurr, a police officer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been charged with second degree murder in the death of a man during a traffic stop.
Schurr was charged with second degree murder.
Schurr was scheduled to be in court on Friday.
Video footage from the Grand Rapids Police Department shows that the license plate on the vehicle that was pulled over by Schurr was not registered to the vehicle.
According to the video footage, the officer asked a number of questions, including if he spoke English and if he had a license.
Schurr shot the man in the head after he ran from the car and tried to use a stun gun on him.
Personnel documents obtained by multiple news outlets show that Schurr is on paid administrative leave.
Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom said during an April press conference he would release the footage of the incident because he wanted to be as transparent as possible. Becker said last month that he needed additional expert guidance before he made a decision on whether to charge Schurr.
Schurr could be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole if he is convicted of second degree murder.
An autopsy set up by the family's legal team, as well as the state's official autopsy, found that she died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head. His blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving when he died. The family believes the shooting was an execution, according to an attorney representing them.
Patrick was shot in the back of the head.
Becker wants more expert guidance in the case.
