State Senator Halts Bid to Help Bring Commanders Stadium to Virginia amid Scandals

According to Laura Vozzella of the Washington Post, Richard L. Saslaw is giving up on trying to get the Washington Commanders to build a stadium in Virginia.

The Commanders spent $100 million on land in Virginia.

Jack Del Rio referred to the January insurrection at the United States Capitol as a "dust-up", according to Saslaw.

He apologized for his words.

Saslaw said that it was not very helpful to put it mildly. A lot of people are saying, "Saslaw, this thing needs to wait."

There are a lot of scandals for the organization. The U.S. Congress' Committee on Oversight and Reform requested the owner of the Commanders and the Commissioner of the National Football League to appear at a hearing.

The National Football League fined the franchise $10 million in 2021 after conducting its own investigation into similar allegations, with the owner's wife taking over day-to-day operations.

A former marketing and events coordination told the panel that she was sexually harassed by him. He was accused of not sharing ticket sales with the rest of the football team.

The Commanders are in limbo about a new stadium. FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland has been the site of the organization's games since 1997.
