What is the CONCACAF Nations League?

The 41 member nations of the regional governing body of North America, Central America and the Caribbean are competing for the title. The idea was to provide more meaningful, competitive games when international friendly games are played.

Minor nations that play fewer than 10 games in a four-year period give them the chance of regular competitive football.

So this means there are no more international friendlies?

Some international friendly will still be played by the countries from the region. There are two spare dates for major countries in League A in June and September of 2022.

What is the format?

There are three "Leagues" for the 41 nations that participate in the Nations League. League A has the strongest nations and League C has the weakest.

There are 12 teams in league A.

There are 16 teams in League B.

A group of four and three of the 13 teams are in the league.

Home and away teams will play each other.

League B.

Group A includes Mexico, Jamaica, and Suriname.

Group B: Costa Rica, Panama, Martinique

Group C: Canada, Honduras, Curacao

Group D: United States, El Salvador, Grenada

League A.

Group A includes Cuba, Guadeloupe, Antigua and Dominica.

Group B: Haiti, Bermuda, Guyana, Montserrat

Group C: Trinidad & Tobago, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Bahamas

Group D: Guatemala, French Guiana, Dominican Republic, Belize

League A.

Group A includes the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Group B: Saint Kitts and Nevis, Aruba, Saint Martin

Group C: Saint Lucia, Dominica, Anguilla

Will there actually be CONCACAF Nations League champions?

I agree. In June 2023, the four group winners from League A will play each other.

The first final between the United States and Mexico was delayed a year because of the coronaviruses.

Is there promotion and relegation?

The teams which finish bottom in Leagues A and B will be demoted. The teams that win their groups will get promoted.

Cuba, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago were demoted to League B in League A for the year 2022.

Guadeloupe, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia are dropping out of League C in order to join League B.

Does the CONCACAF Nations League affect the Gold Cup?

The CONCACAF Gold Cup will be hosted in the year 2023.

Automatic qualification for the gold cup goes to 12 nations.

The top two teams from each group.

League B: The winner of each group

The final four qualify for a playoffs.

The playoffs will have some features.

League A: The four third-place nations

League B: The four second-place finishers

League C: The four group winners

The date for the playoffs is not known.

The host country for the Gold Cup is still to be confirmed, but it will take place between June 26 and July 16. The 16th country will be Qatar.

Does any country have to qualify for the CONCACAF Nations League?

All 41 countries take part.

The seedings for the first full edition of the tournament were set between the 34 lowest ranked countries in the region. The "Swiss-style" league system was to be used in the new version of the U.S.'s premier soccer competition.

The top six teams qualified for the league.

Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and the United States advanced to League A.

When is the next edition of the CONCACAF Nations League?

The finals are likely to take place in June of 2024.
