A group of fishermen, led by Jim Piazza, got close to a great white shark off the Sea Isle City beach.
His video of the shark, which he estimated to be about half the size of his sport boat, has caught the attention of people all over the world.
It's been overwhelming but you know it's cool to share the story and be the ones to see it. I've never seen a fishing boat. It's rare, but Piazza's family has been coming to Sea Isle City since he was a child.
Piazza's son, his son's friend, and his cousin were on the boat.
The great white shark is at the shore.
They saw a shark on their way in from fishing on an artificial reef. Piazza said he almost hit the shark with his boat.
The shark, which is thought to weigh around 1,000 pounds, was very calm and peaceful. Piazza said they watched it for about 10 minutes before they left.
Since buying the boat three weeks ago, Piazza has been out every weekend.
Piazza said it was very wild to see.
The great white shark is returning to the Jersey Shore.
The great white sharks are in the middle of their migration from warmer southeastern waters to cooler waters around Maine and Canada.
A couple of great white sharks were tagged by OCEARCH. Piazza said there were scars near the shark's mouth.
