The first game of the Women's College World Series was played in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night, and the Sooners dominated Texas 16-1 to advance to the title game.
Oklahoma hit six home runs in the victory over its rival, smashing the previous record of four by UCLA in the same year.
The top-ranked Sooners fell behind when starting pitcher Hope Trautwein walked in a run in the top of the first.
After a leadoff double by Jayda Coleman, Alo stepped to the plate and hit a two-run home run over the left field fence, which set a record for the most runs in a single game in a single World Series.
Alo broke the record she set a year ago when she hit her fifth home run of the season in the fourth.
Alo became the only player in the history of the game to hit two home runs in a single game. She did it in the same year, hitting a pair of homers against UCLA in the semifinals.
Already the career home run leader with 122, Alo moved into second place with 327. A former Arizona All-American is the top ranked person.
The Alo show was not the only one. She hit her fourth and fifth home runs in the same game, giving her a share of the record.
She tied Alo's 13-RBI mark with her solo home run in the 5th.
Also said that they view themselves as the best power-hitting duo of all time.
"I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Tiare is always going to have my support," Alo said. She will bring it even if I don't have it. She'll always reply in a way that's right for me.
We feed off of each other.
Since the format was adopted in 2005, Oklahoma's 16 runs were tied for the most.
It was the largest margin of victory in the history of the Red River Rivalry when it beat Texas by 15 runs.
Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said that they punched back.
She said she wasn't surprised by the win.
She said that they weren't afraid of the settings. They love the big stage and all of the excitement. When the lights are bright, they are at their best.
The new Oklahoma football coach and some of his players were at the game.
Alo said it was cool to see. The sport is still growing. Football players are going to come. Trae Young was in the stands. People would like to see us play. They enjoy watching us play. They enjoy watching us dominate.
On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Big 12 foes will face off again. There is an hour and a half in Oklahoma City.
A win would give Oklahoma back-to-back national titles, while a loss would force a winner take-all game on Friday.
The Texas team will have to forget about what happened and move on, according to the center fielder.
"We have to remind everyone that our back has been against the wall all the time," Iakopo said. "Go out, all in, it's just another elimination game."
