Sources said the Los Angeles Rams signed wide receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $80 million contract extension.

The five-year contract is worth $110 million and includes $75 million in guarantees. It's the highest amount of guaranteed money given to an athlete.

The $75 million guarantee given to Cooper Kupp is the highest ever given to an athlete.

During the regular season last year, Kupp led the league with over 1,700 yards and 16 touchdown catches. He was named the game's Most Valuable Player after catching two touchdown passes. He was the fourth player since the 1970 merger to lead the league in reception, receiving yards and touchdown catches.

Kupp said after the first practice of minicamp that he was not looking for a contract that would reset the wide receiver market.

Kupp said that he was not trying to compare himself. I'm not trying to tell you where Tyreek is. Where were all those guys? I need to be higher than them.

He wants the contract to be something we can work on together.

It's great for the team, it's great for me, and it's great for my family as well. It's just getting there, and that place is there.

The Rams reworked the contract of their defensive tackle to make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. Matthew Stafford was extended by Los Angeles, as well as signing BobbyWagner and Allen Robinson.

Within his first 5 career seasons, Kupp has amassed over 5,000 receiving yards and 40 receiving touchdown. Mike Evans, A.J. Green, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, and Jerry Rice are also included.
