The first trailer for the long-awaited, highly anticipated DC movie Black Adam was released a few weeks ago. Fans might be wondering where the movie and the character stand in the larger DC universe after seeing the first trailer.
During the discussion, Johnson was very clear that he did not train or dream about playing Black Adam for a long time. For the long haul, he is in it. Johnson said he was committed to expanding the Black Adam universe and the DC universe.
From the word go, I am an optimist. All of the universes are in our heads. We will work very hard to honor the mythology but also give the fans what they want. He and the team made a very important point. The fans wanted it so they made it. He heard the fans. It's true, we all do. We pick up the things that are being put down. It doesn't work for me. These guys don't get it.
This is the beginning. Black Adam is anchoring jet fuel now and hopefully that will push and press this universal out.
It is difficult to know how Black Adam will fit in the DC Universe without seeing the film. It could be from its history. Black Adam was going to be the main character in the movie. When Johnson read the script three years later, he knew it was better served as a pair of movies. David F. Sandberg went off and made two movies, one of which is Black Adam.
The producer told io9 that the team hadn't begun to think of ways to bring those two characters back together. It hasn't been in our thoughts because they're so different It's a very specific tone. This is a lot more aggressive than it looks. All of these characters are in the same universe. We haven't thought about merging them yet. There is always an opportunity for that because they all are in the same universe.
Since Johnson is one of the biggest stars in the world, we wanted to know if there was ever talk of making Black Adam its own thing.
I don't think so. From what we hear from fans, they want to know that everything is connected We don't want to rush into that. Something that falls into a bigger part of the DC universe is what we're crafting. The power is at that location. If you build these characters up enough, you want to see them cross paths with other people. That is exciting to me.
It's definitely true. Black Adam opens on October 21.
