Masters wondered aloud during a meeting with voters if one third of the people outside of the Capitol complex on January 6 were actually FBI agents.

Masters asked the group of conservatives when they knew about it. We have to go to the bottom of this.

Key Background

The January 6 Capitol riot has been the subject of baseless claims for months, even though hundreds of riot participants were enthusiastic Trump supporters. At a rally earlier this year, the former president asked "exactly how many of those present at the Capitol complex" were FBI agents or confidential sources. Most of the evidence used for this theory is speculative. Some Republicans think that a Trump supporter named Ray Epps may have been an FBI mole, but there is no evidence that he has ties to the FBI. Tucker Carlson has seized on the fact that many of the alleged rioters' charging documents mention unnamed "unindicted co-conspirators." There are a range of innocent reasons why the FBI wouldn't name or charge everyone who is referenced in a criminal indictment.

The Arizona Senate candidate questioned if the attack was set up by the FBI.
