Senate minority leaderMitch McConnell called on House Democrats to pass "common sense" legislation to enhance protection for Supreme Court justices after an alleged assassination attempt.
The Washington Post reported that a man with a weapon was arrested near the home of the justice.
According to a report, the man carrying the tools at the time of his arrest was angry over a leaked draft opinion that indicated the Supreme Court may be poised to overturn Wade.
McConnell said if the reports are correct, it would be an assassination attempt against a justice. This is exactly the kind of event that many feared could lead to terrible breeches of the court's rules.

The Senate passed legislation to improve the police protection for justices and their families after the leak.
The Senate passed a bill on May 9 to give around-the-clock security to the families of Supreme Court justices. The measure had bipartisan support in the Senate, but is stuck in the Democrat-controlled House as some Democrats argue that the enhanced protections should be extended to other court employees.
The security should be applied to law clerks and staff who have faced threats to their physical safety, according to a statement from the House Majority Leader.
McConnell criticized Democrats for not passing the bill.
McConnell said that the legislation was unanimous in the chamber. The measure that passed here unanimously related to security for Supreme Court justices was blocked by House Democrats.
The Democrats in the House have not taken it up. Right now, that needs to be changed. The bill needs to be passed by the House Democrats today. There's no more fiddling with this. Today is the day they need to pass it.
Pro-abortion activists protested outside of the homes of the justices after the draft opinion leaked. The home addresses of the six conservative justices of the Supreme Court were posted by a leftist group.
The home addresses of Justices Roberts, Alito, and Thomas were pinned on a graphic created by Ruth Sent Us and others.
The group didn't seem to notice the near- attack on the judge.
We are not interested in violence. The daily mass-murders in America will not deter fundamentalists from talking about how our peaceful protests inspired this.
The group wanted to know what the California man had. Police would say it was a weapon.
