According to a source, the 2020 U.S. Open champion is joining the LIV golf series.
Multiple reports say that Patrick Reed is joining the LIV series.
The event will be held at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Oregon, from June 30 to July 2.
A LIV Golf spokesman wouldn't say anything.
"Bryson has always been an innovative person," according to the agent. He's always been fascinated by the chance to get in on the ground floor of something unique. As we know, professional golf is changing quickly.
It would be another blow for the PGA Tour, which denied conflicting- event releases to players who requested them to compete in tournaments that are being financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Two of the most controversial players on the tour are DeChambeau and Reed.
LIV Golf has at least nine former major champions who have jumped from the PGA Tour. Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson, two-time major winner Martin Kaymer, and four others are competing in a tournament.
Players who compete without a release will be threatened with fines, suspensions and/or bans. Several players, including Johnson, Schwartzel, and Kevin Na, have quit the tour.
DeChambeau was one of the first targets. He said at the Memorial last week that he was going to stay on the tour.
A lot of it is private. Every person out here has their own opinion on that, so there isn't really any conversations that need to be made about it. There is a lot of discussion. I don't think I'm in a place in my career where I can take risks like that.
I'm loyal to my family because of the sponsors and everything. The golf world is likely to change in some way. I'm not sure what that is. It's not my job to do that. I'm going to keep playing professional golf and play with the best players in the world as long as I can. I want to be one of the best players in the world and that's all I have.
An eight-time winner on thePGA Tour, DeChambeau has made just six starts this season because of a left hand injury. The official world golf ranking has him ranked 28th.
Reed has earned over $37 million during his tour career. In August, Reed was hospitalized with double pneumonia. He is in the middle of the pack.
