A third destination in Australia is being added by United Airlines.

United launching San Francisco to Brisbane route

A new year-round 3x weekly route will be launched by United Airlines between San Francisco and Brisbane. The route will operate to San Francisco on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The service will operate on a daily basis.

The plane leaves San Francisco at 11:20PM and arrives inBrisbane at 6:30AM.

The flight leaves 10:30AM and arrives at 6:40AM.

The flight will cover a distance of over 7,000 miles and is blocked at 14 and 13 hours.

There are 257 seats on the Boeing 787-9 for the route. 49 Polaris seats, 21 Premium Plus seats, 39 Economy Plus seats, and 149 economy class seats are included.

This will be United's third location in Australia. United has continued its international growth, as the airline operates more interesting ultra long haul flights than its rivals.

Qantas operates some long haul flights out of the airport, but United will be the only US airline that flies to the city. Qantas flies to Los Angeles. I think the airline will resume flights to San Francisco after the pandemic passes. There was a pre-pandemic Qantas flight to Chicago.

This is possible thanks to a new Virgin Australia partnership

We haven't seen a lot of US airlines announce new destinations since the start of the Pandemic. United and Virgin Australia have joined forces, as Virgin Australia dumped Delta.

Virgin Australia should provide United with a lot of feed for its transpacific service because it has a hub inBrisbane.

Virgin Australia discontinued long haul flights back in the day, but they still flew Boeing 777s from Brisbane to LA. I think United is a better fit for Virgin Australia than Delta was, because of how conservative Delta is.

United & Virgin Australia have a partnership

Bottom line

The Boeing 787-9 will be used on the new San Francisco and Brisbane flights. Thanks to a partnership between United and Virgin Australia, this route is possible.

What do you think about United's new service in Australia?
