According to sources, the Utah Jazz have been given the go-ahead to interview several assistant coaches in their search for a new head coach.
Sources said that the list includes New York Knicks associate head coach Johnnie Bryant.
Sources say Utah will interview Jazz assistant coach Alex Jensen and former Portland Trail blazers head coach Terry Stotts.
Ryan Smith and Danny Ainge said during a Monday news conference that they would conduct an expansive search for their next head coach. There could be more candidates.
Smith said they would take their time.
Ainge doesn't think it's necessary to hire a head coach before the NBA draft or the start of free agency.
After 18 years running the Celtics' basketball operations, Danny Ainge resigned in the middle of the season to join the Jazz. I have big shoes to fill.
After he declined an extension offer for the second year in a row, Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder resigned this week, ending his eight-year tenure with a 372-264 record. He has a career record of 517-486 with the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bryant established a good relationship with Utah's All-Star guard during his time as an assistant coach. Bryant was a member of the Jazz's staff for six seasons before moving to New York.
Jensen has been on the Jazz's staff for three years. He was the head coach of the Canton Charge for two seasons and was named the D League's coach of the year. The Jazz's summer league team is expected to be coached by Jensen, according to sources.
