Southwest launches summer fare sale: Travel Weekly

This summerAirfares are sky high. Southwest Airlines is offering a 40% off sale for travelers who want to wait for the off-peak travel days.

Between August 16 and November 5, the fare applies. Travelers need to act quickly. There are only a limited number of discounts available through midnight. There is a time difference on Thursday. The discount code FALL40 is needed to take advantage of the sale.

"This discount on Southwest flights will help make travel more affordable and easier for customers, giving them a great low fare along with two free checked bags, and no change or cancellation fees," said Bill Tierney, Southwest's vice president.

All of Southwest's fare products are subject to the fare. The discount will not be available on some flights that operate during busy travel times and holidays.

Hopper says budget domestic airfares are up 34% this summer. Heavy demand, high fuel prices and a shortage of pilots are all contributing to the high fares.
