James Anderson said that the new head coach helped inspire England's first-Test victory over New Zealand with his positive attitude.

New Zealand led England by 229 runs at the close of the second day.

Anderson said that they could have said "oh they've got a big partnership going, two guys nearing a hundred."

You go to bed when the coach says he's excited.

The quality of England's bowling attack on the second evening of the game was pointed out to Anderson by the New Zealand captain.

He said England could take New Zealand's last six second-innings wickets for less than 50 in order to limit the run-chase to less than 300.

After bowling out the tourists for 132 at Lord's, England lost a promising position and fell to 114-7 on the first day.

Anderson says that they would be too down about the first day of losses and get stressed.

The message from the coach and captain was that in Test cricket there are ups and downs.

When the opposition does fight back, let's just park it and come back tomorrow and try as best we can.

The vibe has been good. I've liked the positive vibes.
