Aaron Donald

Saving the Super Bowl and being arguably the best football player in the world doesn't mean getting a person. Not a contract dispute that lasts into training camp is good news for the Los Angeles Rams and their star defensive tackle. Donald has been rumored to retire after the season in 2020. He told Brandon Marshall that he only wanted to play eight years in the NFL.

Winning the Super Bowl makes you kind of addicted to it. I want to feel that again. He didn't sound like a player who was going to retire. He sounded like a person who knows his worth and will play on his terms. Donald was pushed back by Brandon Marshall when he said that quarterbacks make more money than other players in the league. Donald doesn't believe that the gap should be as wide as it is.

Donald was given a 40 million dollar raise by the Rams after they didn't give him a monster extension. Donald will make $65 million over the next two years, making him the highest paid non-quarterback in the history of the league. His new guaranteed money is more than what Matthew Stafford got from the Rams. Donald smiled as he signed the deal as big as the traps that require triple teams on a regular basis.

The deal had to be signed by him. Donald is in his 30's and is a defensive lineman in the National Football League. The Rams offered him $65 million over the course of the next five years, and there is a chance this is the last big pay day for him. He won after winning a Super Bowl and three defensive player of the year awards. He won the kitchen sink, the RV, and the boat from the showcase show.

This is not a bad deal for the Rams. Maybe not in terms of salary-cap percentage, but they already have mathematicians working for them who have figured out where Pi ends to make the numbers work for Donald, Stafford, and still field a full NFL roster.

Donald's name is on scouting reports from all over the world. It's logical to stop him by putting more than half of the offensive line in place. He still finds a way to record double-digit sacks. The Rams aren't like the Legion of Boom or the Bears. For half a season Von Miller will be the star. The only Pro Bowlers on defense were Ramsey and Donald. The Rams had the sixth-best defense in the sport last season and in 2020 they had the best.

Ramsey is the best defensive back in the league, but he is often on an island. Donald is in the mix, face in the buzzsaw on every down, and the opposing offensive linemen are terrified of Donald scoring a 75-yard touchdown.

It's easy to see how that will make the Rams defense worth $50 million per annum. They have finished outside the Top 10 in weighted defensive DVOA twice since Donald was drafted. Since the beginning of the year, Ramsey has been there. Donald guarantees a top 10 defense. It might be better if Donald is destroying the heart of opposing offenses.

The Rams will get their rings in the first week of the season against the Bills. For as much of the cap as Donald's salary will consume, the Rams got off lightly.
