TikTok launches custom avatars to rival Snapchat’s Bitmoji and Apple’s Memoji

A new feature on TikTok will allow users to turn themselves into animated characters in the style of Apple's Memoji,Snapchat's Bitmoji, and Meta'savatars.

The feature can be accessed from the app's camera along with TikTok's other effects. If you want to use the feature on yourself, open the app, flip the camera to selfies mode, tap effects, and select theavatar effect. You can either use a preset look or hit "new" to make a customavatar. You can change the face shape, skin tone, hairstyle, and accessories of your character. You can use your movements and facial expressions to create a video.

TikTok wants to make the feature inclusive and will continue to improve and innovate to make sure the experience is representative of all who are on TikTok. The feature was first leaked.

It is interesting that so many social media platforms have embraced customavatars as a way to communicate without the pressure of doing so in person. TikTok has the potential to be used by pseudonymous content creators. This is a trend that has taken off on YouTube with VTubers and could certainly be adopted on a platform like Tik Tok.
