Virgin Hotels plans to make a push into resort destinations, eyeing markets in the Caribbean and Europe, which could create stay-and-sail synergies with Virgin voyages.
Virgin Hotels CEO James Bermingham told Travel Weekly that part of their focus is on resorts. Ibiza is a big project for us in Spain because Virgin voyages stop there as well.
Virgin Hotels is also interested in Portugal, Italy and Greece.
The move into resort markets would be made in partnership with the Virgin Group.
The Virgin limited edition has luxury properties. Necker Island, a 74-acre private retreat, is owned by Richard Branson.
Bermingham said they will work on opportunities. "If it's ultra-luxury, smaller in scale and special, that fits into the Virgin limited edition portfolio, and if it's larger developments in the luxury lifestyle space, that fits into virgin hotels."
Bermingham said that Virgin resorts will have a bigger emphasis on health. Virgin Hotels had a soft opening for its first international location in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this month.
The brand plans to open hotels in New York City and Glasgow. There will be a hotel in Miami in 25 years.
The Scarlet Lady was Virgin Voyages' first ship. The Resilient Lady is due in August. The Brilliant Lady was unveiled in April.
