The Bruins will be looking for a new coach.

The team announced Monday that Bruce Cassidy has been relieved of his head coaching duties after six seasons with the team.

It was an extremely difficult decision to part ways with Bruce. Don Sweeney said in the team's press release that he felt the direction of the team would benefit from a new voice.

The Boston Bruins fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs after finishing fourth in the Atlantic Division. Cassidy has had the team in the playoffs for six years in a row.

The future of the captain of the Bruins is one of the many questions the team faces. The veteran center is set to become an unrestricted free agent after he declined to negotiate a contract extension.

He won the Selke trophy for the fifth time as the league's best defensive forward and still has a lot left in the tank. He was part of the Bruins team that won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

Boston is also dealing with injuries to key players Brad Marchand is expected to be out for six months after having surgery. Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk is going to be out for five months.
