The International Space Station now has its own take on the classic pizza pie.
NASA gave a glimpse of a pizza party on the International Space Station, with photographic evidence of what may be the grossest looking pizza ever captured.
In the photos, the international team of space explorers look like they're having the time of their lives eating personal, self-made pizzas with a variety of sauces and cheeses. They look a bit like adults assembling pizza Lunchables, but without the nostalgia factor associated with that era of kids' junk food.
The International Space Station National Lab posted on June 3, 2017:
The sad little monstrosities become even grosser looking when you zoom in on the table where the astronauts seem to have made these poor approximations of what is arguably Italy's greatest cultural export.
This isn't the first pizza that has been eaten in space. Pizza Hut delivered a six-inch pizza to a Russian cosmonaut back in 2001.
In archival footage, Usachov is seen taking out a vacuum-sealed pizza from a space-age oven and floating it in zero gravity as he waits for it to cool down. The 2001 version of the pizza looks better than the sad versions of 2022.
Even as their countries are on the verge of war, American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts bond over a meal made with ingredients from both countries. What brings people together is a mystery.
There is a pizza robot that dumped melted cheese everywhere.
