Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference kicked off on Monday with a keynote address and the company used the stage to announce a bunch of new software updates. This year's Worldwide Developers Conference was a hybrid of pre-recorded video and a live audience at the company's headquarters. The software updates were large. There is a new MacBook Air.

There is a new computer. It would be surprising to see a laptop launch at a software event, but the pundits were expecting it. The new MacBook Air has a case that is 20 percent thinner than the previous model and has a smaller notch for the camera at the top of the display. It has something called MagSafe. The magnetic charging attachment on the new MacBook Air is different from the one on the old MacBook. The two Thunderbolt-usb 4 ports are freed up by the MagSafe addition. There is a new M2 chip inside that improves performance. According to Apple, the new Air has 18 hours of battery life. The new laptop has a light weight and comes in a variety of colors. The MacBook Air is expensive.

There is a new 13-inch MacBook Pro. Up to 20 hours of battery life is what Apple says it can provide, and it can be upgraded to a larger amount of memory and a larger hard drive. The price for the pro is $1,299.

The proprietary hardware that Apple has been packing into most of its new machines is used in Apple's new chip. The 8-core chip is 18 percent faster than the M1, according to Apple. Apple claims the new graphics card has 25 percent more performance than the previous one. The new MacBook Air and a new 13-inch MacBook Pro will be carrying it.

Quality of life updates will be included in the next version of the operating system for the phone. The lock screen is changing. You can change the look of the screen without having to open it. If you want to access things like your calendar, workout apps, and photos, just press and hold for a moment. The lock screen is being used to tie the Focus app to. If you set a lock screen for each of your Focus modes, you will be able to see what is relevant to your current mode, which will help you avoid texting and distraction.

Apple made some changes to Messages. Texts can be edited and even deleted after they've been sent. The voice-to-text feature is getting some enhancements, like the ability to flow between voice and finger input, which is enabled by the keyboard staying on-screen. You can now copy text from videos, photos, and the translation app. You can plan out up to 15 different stops in Apple Maps.
