Phil Mickelson is back on the golf course after a four-month break.

Lefty was added to the field on Monday for the LIV Golf's first event, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

Greg Norman said that Phil Mickelson is one of the greatest golf players of this generation. His contribution to the sport and connection to fans around the globe cannot be overstated, and we are grateful to have him. We're proud to launch a new era for golf in London, thanks to him.

After missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January, Phil Mickelson has joined a field that includes two-time major winners and four other major winners.

After being engaged and intentional in continued therapy, Lefty said he was ready to return to the game and feel better.

"I am thrilled to begin with LIV Golf and I would like to thank everyone involved." I plan to play in the majors. I understand that some people may disagree with this decision and I sympathize with them. I'm excited for the game.

After his controversial comments about the PGA Tour's "obnoxious greed" and the Saudi Arabian financiers of LIV Golf caused a backlash, Lefty decided to skip the Masters and the PGA Championship. Norman, a two-time Open champion and former world No. 1 golfer, is fronting the LIV Golf series.

He apologized for his comments on Monday.

I apologize to the many people I offended and hurt with my comments a few months ago. Some of the things I have said and done have caused me to make mistakes. Taking time away and self- reflection has been very difficult. To become a better version of myself, I need to prioritize the people that I like the most.

The PGA Tour denied conflicting- event releases to players who requested them. At last week's Memorial in Columbus, Ohio, the tour commissioner told player agents that they couldn't play on both circuits if they wanted to. There could be fines, suspensions and/or bans for players who compete on the LIV Golf series without a release.

Kevin Na, a long time member of the PGA Tour, resigned from the tour on Saturday in order to avoid possible discipline or legal action.

One of the most popular players of his generation has already paid a heavy price for his controversial comments. Several of his longstanding sponsors ended their relationship with him. Callaway stopped its relationship with the golfer after signing him to an equipment deal.

The author of the unauthorized biography of the player known as "Lefty" received an apology from the golfer. During the conversation, which Shipnuck said took place in November, Mickelson said he was working with two players to create operating agreements for the new circuit.

They're scary motherf---ers to get involved with. They have a bad record on human rights. People are put to death for being gay. I don't understand why I would consider it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to change how the tour operates.

While many stars have pledged their loyalty to the PGA Tour, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and others, they are moving to Norman's new circuit.

A prize-money total of $255 million this year, including $25 million for each of the seven regular- season tournaments, is the richest in professional golf.

The final of the team championship match-play will be held at Trump Doral in Miami in October. Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, Oregon is where the second LIV event will take place.

The series will consist of 54-hole events with no cuts and shotgun starts. There will be a maximum of 48 players on 12 four-man teams at each event, and rosters will be decided by a draft on Tuesday.
