At the company's Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple will introduce its new M2 chip. After the M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra chips, Apple is ready to move on to a more powerful M2 chip.
The new M2 is 25 percent larger than the original M1 and uses Apple's custom ArmSilicon, which is 25 percent larger. The M2 has transistors that should boost performance, and Apple claims that it will be 35 percent faster than the original M1.
According to Apple, that performance is 1.9 times faster than the 10-core PC chip. In order to get better performance over the M1, Apple is using new performance and efficiencycores on the M2 along with 100Gbps of memory bandwidth and 24GB of unified memory, which is 50 percent more bandwidth than the M1. The M2 has four high-efficiency cores with a shared 16MB cache on the performance cores and a shared 4 MB cache on the efficiency ones.
Apple's M2 features a next-generation secure enclave and neural engine as well as an updated media engine. M2 chips can play multiple streams of 4K and 8K video at the same time.
One of Apple's most popular laptops is the MacBook Air. The wedge shape of the MacBook Air has been changed for a thinner profile this time. The new MacBook Air has a bigger screen, better camera, and 18-hour battery life. There's more information on the new MacBook Air here.
