Apple announces redesigned MacBook Air with M2 chip and MagSafe

During the keynote, a new MacBook Air was introduced, but it wasn't the usual hardware announcement. The design of the new model is similar to that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro with a more squared-off look. It has MagSafe charging, two ports, and a jack for headphones. It is 11mm thick and weighs 2.6 pounds. It will be available in a number of colors.

The MacBook Air will be on sale in July. The Air will be available for more than $1,000.

The newer MacBook Air has a larger display with less space around it. It has 500 nits of peak brightness. Given the performance gains that Apple is claiming to squeeze from the M2, it's impressive that it has a silent, fan-less design. Apple claims that it is 40-percent faster than the previous model, but that performance boost may vary depending on the app.

The MacBook Air is getting new mics and speakers that support Dolby Atmos, as well as a1080p FaceTime HD camera. It is possible to charge up to 80 percent in 20 minutes with Apple's new power accessory.
