According to a report from The Times, Russian billionaire Farkhad Akhmedov wants the European Union to drop sanctions against him.
In April, the EU imposed sanctions on the former Russian politician. The EU said at the time that the tycoon was close to the Kremlin and that he was a major source of revenue for the Russian government.
According to The Times, Akhmedov denied having any relationship with Putin and severed ties to the energy industry.
Insider requested comment from the Council for the EU. The Insider couldn't find contact information for the man.
The billionaire's 377-foot yacht, Luna, was frozen in a German port. The vessel was purchased for about $256 million and is now worth about $460 million.
Akhmedov has had to fight before for access to his yacht. One of the largest divorce settlements in the UK occurred when the vessel was in the middle.
A judge ordered Akhmedov to pay about 40% of his wealth after his wife filed for divorce. According to Forbes, Akhmedov has a net worth of over one billion dollars.
The divorce settlement was not paid by the billionaire at the time. According to The Times, a team of specialists was ordered to seize his assets. The Luna yacht was moored in the United Arab Emirates for over two years.
In July, the battle came to an end when the couple settled on a total of about $106 million and over $50 million worth of art.
According to Superyacht Fan, the superyacht was sold to Akhmedov for about $256 million, after originally being owned by RomanAbramovich. A number of Western countries have imposed sanctions onAbramovich.
There are at least two vessels that were seized in the port of Hamburger in connection with the Ukraine war. The world's largest yacht, a $735 million vessel, was seized by Germany in April. An appeal has been filed by the billionaire.
