There are more than 36,000 doses of the Jynneos monkeypox vaccine available in the United States.

The vaccine will be given to people who have had high risk exposure to the disease in order to stop it from spreading. There are at least 25 confirmed or presumed cases of monkeypox in the U.S.

An HHS spokesman said that the U.S. ordered another 36,000 doses of Jynneos from the Danes. There are more than 1 million doses owned by the U.S. and can be filled by the federal government.

Outside of Africa, the monkeypox outbreak is the largest. More than 800 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported to the WHO. The majority of the cases are in Europe.

Jynneos was approved by the FDA for adults who are at high risk of contracting a disease. Only the two-dose vaccine can be used to prevent monkeypox. The US has more than 100 million doses of the ACAM2000 vaccine. Emergent BioSolutions makes ACAM 2000.

In a call with reporters on Friday, Raj Panjabi said that the U.S. has distributed 1,200 doses of Jynneos and ACAM2000 for people who have high risk exposure to monkeypox.

The vaccine ACAM2000 can be used to protect against monkeypox under a CDC program. There is a milder form of monkeypox that is in the same family ofviruses.

Panjabi said the U.S. distributes an oral antiviral that can be used to treat people with monkeypox. It was the first pill approved by the FDA to treat smallpox and can also be used against monkeypox.

Jynneos is generally recommended by the CDC over ACAM2000. ACAM2000 uses a live mild virus strain in the same family as monkeypox and smallpox that can still be passed on to other people. The vaccine is given as a single dose, which is scratched into the upper arm, and then the virus grows into a small blisters.

If the patient rubs the eye with their finger, they can spread the virus to other parts of their body, which could cause vision damage. If a family member has a weak immune system or is pregnant or breast feeding, they can be at risk of contracting the disease. It is important for people who receive ACAM2000 to take care of their injection site so that they don't get the virus.

Large groups of people are not supposed to get ACAM2000 because of the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding, people with weak immune systems, and people with skin conditions are included.

There is a chance that the vaccine can cause stillbirth in pregnant women. People with weak immune systems are at risk of getting a dangerous infections. People with skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis are at risk of contracting a life-threatening disease if the virus spreads on their skin. Myocarditis and pericarditis are related to ACAM2000.

The Jynneos vaccine has fewer side effects because it uses a mild virus strain that can't be replicated in the human body.

According to Mark Slifka, an immunologist at Oregon Health and Science University, ACAM2000 has shown high levels of protection against monkeypox in animal models and is expected to provide 85% protection against disease from the virus. According to Slifka, there is not much known about the effectiveness of Jynneos because it is a newer vaccine.

Public health officials are concerned about the global monkeypox outbreak because it is unusual for the virus to spread outside West and Central Africa. The virus jumped from rodents to humans in Africa. According to Slifka, the virus seems to be better transmitted through physical contact.

The World Health Organization said last week that the virus has probably been spreading outside Africa undetected for some time.

Gay and bisexual men have reported most of the cases so far, according to the WHO. According to health officials, anyone can catch monkeypox. They said it's important to raise awareness of the situation in the gay community so people can protect their health.

According to a CDC official, most of the U.S. patients had a history of international travel in the 21 days before their symptoms began. The CDC doesn't believe that monkeypox is spreading widely in the U.S.

McQuiston said that most people who catch monkeypox recover in two to four weeks without specific medical treatment. She said that the public's health threat is low.

The symptoms of monkeypox are similar to the flu and rash. Skin-to-skin contact is the main route of transmission of the virus. It is possible for people to catch monkeypox through bedsheets or clothing. It is not easy for a disease to be transmitted through respiratory droplets if a person has a throat or mouth problem.

According to the CDC, people with confirmed or suspected monkeypox infections should be kept away from each other. After a new layer of skin has formed, people with monkeypox should be left isolated.
