The trailer looks like Disney is giving some freedom to the character designers by taking a lot of visual inspiration from retrofuture pulp action. It is nice to see that Strange World pushes the boundaries of what can be seen in a movie. There is no shortage of old school Indiana Jones homages, from the style to the kind of reluctant explorer that appears in these sorts of films. I am seeing a bit of an Atlantis vibe, a film from 2001 that shows a not-quite-explorer journey into a fantastic and mechanical world.
Jake Gyllenhaal will play Searcher Clade, a farmer who is caught up in an exploration far over his head. The Clade family will have to work together as they are caught up in an adventure in a land that is both dangerous and mysterious.
Strange World will be released in November of 2022.
