In a recent straw poll of self-identifying conservative conference goers who were asked who they'd like to be the presidential nominee in four years, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis claimed another clean win over former President Donald Trump.
The Western Conservative Summit was held in Denver, Colorado. The goal of the summit is to "motivate those conservative activists who are in the trenches, to convene and network together, and to educate on key issues, both equip volunteers as well as training a new younger generation of conservatives."
The event was organized by a think tank.
When asked which candidate they would prefer to be the GOP's presidential nominee, conference-goers were told to vote for all of the other candidates. The results of the poll were shared by Michael McGonigle, a journalist with The Daily Citizen and Fox News.
711% of voters gave a thumbs-up to DeSantis, while 67.6% gave Trump a thumbs-up.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz received 28.73% of the vote, while Dr. Ben Carson received 24.15% of the vote. Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo received votes from more than half of the respondents.
The second year in a row, DeSantis has come out on top of the polls. A straw poll in 2020 found that Trump received more approval than the other candidate, but only by a small margin.
They haven't said whether they'll be running for president in four years.
In October 2021, he said he wouldn't be running for president because he was busy making sure people didn't support critical race theory. Trump has been teasing a run but has yet to make a formal declaration.
