More than one million older Mercedes-Benz vehicles are being recalled because of possible problems with their brakes.

The company said over the weekend that it will be contacting the owners of the vehicles as their brakes may be affected by what it calls "advanced corrosion".

There are over one hundred thousand vehicles that are affected by the recall in Germany.

A number of Mercedes cars were recalled last year due to safety issues.

The vehicles in the latest recall were built between 2004 and 2015, according to the company.

Mercedes said in a statement that the function of the brake booster could be affected by the joint area of the housing being damaged.

It said that a strong or hard braking maneuver could cause mechanical damage to the brake booster.

It wouldn't be possible to decelerate the vehicle using the service brake. It said that the risk of a crash would be increased.

Mercedes said that it would start the recall immediately and that it would involve inspecting the potentially faulty vehicles and replacing parts if necessary.

A defect in its "eCall" feature caused the company to recall over 1m cars.

There was a chance that a wrong location could be sent.

The fix was done over the air using the car's existing mobile data connection.
