The country's space station, called the Tiangong, was successfully docked with the Chinese mission. According to CNN, the three-person crew of the spacecraft arrived at the Tianhe "Harmony of the Heavens" crew module at 5:42PM local time. The arrival marks the start of a six-month stay at the station for the mission's astronauts that will see China attempt to make significant progress towards the completion of Tiangong
The station is supposed to be finished by the end of the year. The first of two lab modules will be launched next month and the second in October. Chinese astronauts will be able to conduct research in microgravity. The country's first-ever tandem spacewalk took place last year and the crew will conduct multiple Evas to prepare the station for expansion. The first woman from China to make it to space is among the three astronauts.
A fifth of the size of the International Space Station will be made up of a t-shaped structure. Commercial space flights may be allowed to visit the space station. International space agencies have been invited to the station. Blue Origin successfully completed its fifth crewed flight on Saturday, capping off a busy week in space travel, as NASA prepares to begin testing its next- generation SLS rocket again.
