Jeffrey Guity thought the text he got from his cousin was a joke.
Guity didn't think twice about his belief that Jeter needed to get on social media.
In December of last year, Guity said that he didn't have an excuse for not having aTwitter account by now.
Guity, a Yankees fan who lives in Connecticut and works in an Amazon warehouse, thought that Jeter would be a good presence on social media after he retired.
Guity thought he would go to Kobe Bryant. Kobe began using social media after he retired. I thought that he might have time to interact with fans away from baseball.
On Tuesday, when he opened his social media accounts, he poked fun at himself using Guity's post from the year before.
Looks like I've officially run out of excuses. https://t.co/DQwmgjU9jW

As Guity's family and friends began reaching out, he discovered that he had sent a message.
Guity said it was weird. I'm interested in how he found it. I'm not a big fan of the Yankees. He might have been searching for questions about himself. He has been waiting so long. I had a lot of unanswered questions.
Guity hasn't responded to Jeter on the social networking site due to his aversion to publicity and the spotlight, but he says his life hasn't changed since he heard about him.
Guity said that she spent most of the time reading the funny reactions to the first day on social media for him. I'm happy I got some points on the internet.
