Donald Trump endorsed Kevin McCarthy for reelection in the lead-up to the November elections, where Republicans are favored to make major gains and possibly regain control of the lower chamber.
The California Republican was described as strong and fearless by Trump.
Kevin is an advocate for the people of Bakersfield in congress. The former president wrote that he was working hard to stop inflation, deliver water solutions, and hold Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi accountable for their failures.
Kevin McCarthy has my complete and total endorsement.
Trump's show of support comes on the heels of audio released by The New York Times in April, which revealed that the GOP leader had spoken to fellow lawmakers about potentially asking him to resign.
McCarthy suggested to the president that he should resign if he were to be impeached.
McCarthy doesn't think he would have pushed for Trump to leave office.
The Washington Post reported that Trump and McCarthy spoke on the phone after the audio hit the public, and that the former president was happy that McCarthy didn't resign.
Trump said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that he thought it was a big compliment. They supported me even though they were wrong.
McCarthy will compete in the primary.
