Khan was a sequel to both the 1979 Star Trek film and the 1967 episode of the show. Nicholas Meyer did uncredited work on the final script with Jack B. Sowards. Whether it was the death of Spock, the improved acting, or the presence of a great villain in the form of the late Ricardo Montalban, Khan the film was a huge success back in the day. It was a box office hit when it was released, earning over 100 million dollars worldwide. It spawned a sub-franchise for the film franchise that included 1984's Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and 1986's Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The Trek fans believed that the only good films in the series would be the odd ones.
If you haven't seen the film, you've probably absorbed some of it through cultural osmosis. You can see it through its scream or funeral scene. You have probably heard that it is one of the best sequels of all time and that Empire Strikes Back is the worst of the three. It is one of the first feature films to have a sequence made entirely with computer graphics.
No one knows the greatness of Khan more than Star Trek. The remake films did a version of the film back in 2013). It may have improved in the past decade. The new show Strange New Worlds gave us a member of his extended family in the form of La'an Noonien Singh. After the original film received a mixed response, it was credited with getting waning fans back into the series. Would we still have Star Trek if it weren't for it?
