The Cubs called up their top pitching prospect, right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian, to start the second game of their game against the St. Louis Cards on Saturday.

Kilian was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Kris Bryant.

In nine starts for Triple-A Iowa, Kilian has a 2.06 earned run average. Before he was called up, he had 41 strikeouts in 3913 pitches.

In the midst of a busy schedule, the Cubs have two games this week with veterans Wade Miley and Drew Smyly both on the disabled list.

Bryant was on the Cubs' roster when Kilian and Alexander Canario were traded for him. He was drafted by the Giants in the eighth round of the playoffs.

The Cubs DFA'd pitcher was added to the 40 man roster. Anderson Espinoza was brought back to serve as the 27th man. The team has eight players making their major league debut this season.
