The 14th French Open final was not the way Nadal wanted to end his career.

Germany's Zverev retired after turning on his ankle while Nadal was leading 6-7.

Nadal said that if you are a human, you should feel bad for a colleague.

Even if it's a dream to be in the final, it's not the way we want it to be.

The third seed screamed in pain when he went down on the baseline after twisting his ankle in the second set.

A concerned Nadal went to check on his opponent as a medic raced on to the court to help him.

The seriousness of the situation was obvious, with Zverev screaming for help as he lay on the clay.

After medics arrived, it was obvious he would not be able to continue.

After the incident, Nadal said it was difficult to speak.

The only thing I can say is that I hope he's okay.

It's normal when you turn your ankle and hope it's not broken.
